The failure and lack of vision of the MVRA
03/06/2009
Not only has the MVRA failed to protect our suburb from the visual pollution of Telstra’s black cables and the hideously ugly poles they hang off but the MVRA lacks the vision to put forward any kind of alternternative.
At the RAMV we value our suburb’s true Victorian heritage and have the imagination to enhance it. At the suggestion of RAMV member Ralph M Codger, we will be beginning a campaign to bring the Gas Lamp to Mount Victoria. It’s not just about preserving our heritage, it’s about enhancing it.

While I agree with Mr Codger’s noble intentions, the greater blot on our fair suburb is the advent of all these modern auto-jalopies.
The character of Mt Victoria was defined by the horse and trap, and the orphan children that swept up after them. While I am prepaired to accept some progress, surely Mr Henry Ford and his Model T is about as far as we should go in order for the suburb retain its original character.
Any responsible resident should be able to clearly see both the economic and social benefit of restoring their auto-jalopies, rather than replacing them, therby undermining our wonderful streetscape.
Mr Kunston, please give my most sincere regards to your wife Gloria. I trust she is over the worst and we will see her soon at the Ladies Auxaliary. I hope the 4 little Kunstons are also well.
Dear Mr Kunston
What a joy it is to learn of such upstanding people as yourself, Mr Kunston, leading our gracious Mt Victoria back into its glorious past!
I feel that I must raise with you a serious matter of concern with regard to the heritage of our fine suburb. Out-houses. A single out-house at the back of the garden was good enough for my dear husband and I, and our 7 children, so they should be good enough for the current residents of Mt Victoria. I would strongly support an approach to the Council to seek the mandatory re-instigation of out-houses for all cottages in Mt Victoria.
Thank goodness for your vision, Mr Kunston. These johnny-come-latelys at the MVRA don’t have the insight that you do into the needs of Mt Victoria! You’re the man for the future of our Victorian Mt Victoria.
With kind regards
Betty V. Cantankerous (Mrs)
